Joel Rabesolo

Joel Rabesolo ANDRIANANTENAINA was born in Madagascar into a family of musicians. He began music at the age of 8 with a traditional instrument: the Kabosy. Subsequently, he explored other instruments and was introduced to various musical styles, notably blues and rock, alongside his brother. Later, he discovered the guitar and fell in love with jazz while listening to 'Straight Up' by the Bob James Trio. Self-taught, he developed his playing style in a personal way.

In 2006, he won first prize in a jazz discovery competition in Antananarivo, the capital of his country. This award opened the doors to the professional world for him and encouraged him to deepen his research into the traditional music of his country.

In 2015, he moved to Belgium and began musical studies at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. During this period, he performed alongside renowned musicians such as Linley Marthe and D’Gary. At the end of his studies, he named his musical style 'Langage Marovanistique,' the fruit of his artistic explorations.

Holder of a Master's degree, he then became a Professor at the Muziekpublique Academy. Today, he is involved as an original composer in a dance and theater piece with Soa Ratsifandrihana, is a guitarist in Manou Gallo's band, has played with Ballaké Sissoko, and recently released an album with other projects such as a Duo with Fabien Degryse, Rahona, IbIyewa, and the Arthur Possing Quartet.
